History

The asset consists of approx 10.000 volumes divided into two sections, the ancient one and the modern one.

The ancient section includes the volumes of the so-called tradition library, cataloged on paper and divided by subject and author. In this section, in the room named “Febo Allevi”, you will find the Fund of “Sixteenth century”, that is the 354 printed editions of the 16th century; the two handwritten codes of the Ginesini Statutes, one on a parchment support and with colored capital letters dating back to the 14th century, the other on dated paper 1577; the printed edition of The Statutes of the Ecclesiastical Land of Saint Genesis, Maceratae with Sebastian Martin, 1582; the three manuscript codes, from the History of Ginesinae by Marinangelo Severini (in view of 1580 c.) and two contemporary translations by Francesco Majolini and Paolo Ciampaglia, that, together with the rare eighteenth-century edition of the book Of the Cupramontana Ginesina by Paolo Morichelli Riccomanni (datable 1770-1777) and the two volumes of the Sanginesio Illustrata by Telesforo Benigni (1790 and 1795), and at Historical memories of Sanginesio (Market) in relation with the surrounding lands by Giuseppe Salvi (1889), they constitute the sources and the basic coordinates for the history of San Ginesio.

The modern section includes c. 5000 unit, almost entirely cataloged in the computer system adopted by the Province of Macerata. The volumes are available to the public for loan and consultation. In this section, particular attention deserves the "Marchigiano Fund", that, in addition to countless publications of local interest, especially relating to the classes of art, of the history and authors of the Marche region, includes the Gentili Fund and the Allevi Fund.

The library is open to the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays, except holidays. For special needs it is advisable to contact the Municipality of San Ginesio.
